Using Welsh in 2019

Wowsers, well 2018 was a year of ups and downs but has finished off with a great flurry of calendar orders.

Learning Welsh is never a chore!

My Welsh language calendars and family organisers have been welcomed by both Welsh learners and fluent speakers as there are lots of opportunities to use the language on a daily basis.

As a Welsh learner myself, I’ve placed great importance on having Welsh text around me in my day to day living and have always looked for a calendar or organiser that didn’t play to the stereo typical Welsh ‘look’ (although that’s fine if that’s what floats your boat).

This year’s calendars have developed from previous years to have even more space for dates, matched with fab illustrations that appeal in particular to young people. With over 450 Welsh medium primary schools and c. a quarter of all children in Wales attending a Welsh language primary, the emphasis of learning and using Welsh outside the classroom has been key and comes back to the importance (especially in homes where no adult or only 1 adult speaks Welsh) of encouraging conversation in day to day life, outside of the school gates.
