After a few months away from sewing workshops, I’m back this Autumn with a series of fun filled, relaxed sewing sessions in Cardiff at the the lovely Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, Cardiff.
This season is all about taking time to develop a rounded project; sessions are 4 hours with breaks of course but are just right for young people to get focused and see a quality piece of work come to life.
As always, newbie sewers right through to the more advanced are welcome to come along; there are plenty of tasks that will test all skill levels and I always feel that it’s good practice for children to help each other out; gaining new friends, confidence and a bit of focused creative time are all outcomes I prioritise; it isn’t just about learning to sew a button, cut a piece of fabric (although this is very important obviously!).
There are lots of sewers who come along and don’t realise the importance of maths, calculations and literacy within the sessions- who wants a pillow which doesn’t fit a cushion or struggle with the basic written instructions? The classes break down these challenges and go at the pace of every individual so no-one feels left out or isolated.
And what better feeling is there then making something completely unique, something personal that money can’t really buy?
I always welcome boys and girls, the sessions are never overtly orientated to one gender, so as long as a child is over 8, they are more than welcome.
As the sessions are 4 hours and run over a lunchtime, I do ask that you provide a light packed lunch, but all materials, sewing machines etc are included..just come along and have fun.
I am DBS certified and wok with the great team in Chapter to deliver the programme of activity.
